Kyle Rankin Turns Hard Work, Leadership Into An “A”

PRINCETON, N.J. – On Jan. 9, junior Kyle Rankin skated out to pregame warmups as usual. He followed his teammates around the ice, skating and shooting pucks at Princeton’s net.

Unlike the other 71 times Rankin participated in pregame warmups, this time the forward took the ice with an orange “A” stitched to his white jersey.

It’s been a long offseason for Princeton hockey.

For the second straight year, Princeton will open its season at the Liberty Hockey Invitational. But this team is vastly different from last year’s.

After finishing with a 6-26-0 record, Princeton overhauled its coaching system. The six wins were the lowest since 2003-04, and it meant the departures of Bob Prier, Greg Gardner and Scott Garrow for Ron Fogarty, Brad Dexter and Stavros Paskaris.

The coaching staff changes bring challenges for this season, but mostly a new system the players must learn.

So that’s the toughest thing right now and we’ll have a good sense of where our team is right before the Christmas break.” Continue reading Princeton Ready To Take The Ice After An Offseason Of Changes

The Big Storyline

The coaching staff for Princeton is entirely new. Ron Fogarty, Stavros Paskaris and Brad Dexter replace Bob Prier, Greg Gardner and Scott Garrow.

The Skinny

Princeton has struggled offensively and defensively for the past few seasons. Injuries have been a major issues as well, keeping Princeton from a chance at consistency. Despite the adversity, the Tigers have been an extremely hard-working and very physical team. But with the new coaching staff, it’s hard to say what Princeton’s identity will be this season.   Continue reading 2014-15 Princeton Hockey Season Primer
